Wedding Invitations

When the time comes for you to let all your friends and family know about your big day there are a few things to consider when choosing your wedding invitations.

These are normally the first glimpse of your theme or colour scheme that your guests have, it is all about first impressions so choose well.

Your Theme

If you have decided to have a themed day then you may want the wedding invitation to reflect this and give your guests a hint of what is in store, this could be achieved either through a coloured ribbon in the shade of the bridesmaid dresses or a flower that will be prominent on the day.

The other option is to keep your invitation plain and therefore keep your guests guessing about colour schemes etc.

Another factor to consider is the size and shape of your invite, a 4.5-inch x 6.25-inch rectangular card is the traditional size and shape. However, anything goes these days with couples opting for more fun or modern twists like circular, scalloped and square invitations. Just remember to factor in the cost of the postage, bulky or extra-large invites may be more expensive to send.

Make your own!

It has become more popular for couples to create their own stationery for their weddings and many stationery suppliers sell all the items required to create a unique design. This can add a personalised touch to your wedding however you need to leave yourself plenty of time to make them, maybe you could get your bridesmaids to help out!

Save the Date

So when you have them all ready when do you send them? It is normally no later than six weeks before the wedding but some couples like to send them out eight weeks before to give your guests more time to reply.

If you are planning a wedding overseas it is normal practice to send the wedding invitations out at least 12 weeks prior to the date. In this instance a Save the Date would be ideal at least 6 months before the wedding to give guests ample notice in case they need to request extra time off work.
